About Me

Hello! I am Karissa, an aspiring filmmaker fascinated with the medium of film and how it can spark universal change.

My interest in creative writing and storytelling sparked my passion to capture the nuances of global issues through documentary filmmaking. It is a credit to my exposure to Geography and Literature subjects in my former years that expanded my hunger to delve into complex issues. These social, political and environmental problems lay snug in the underbelly of society — it is the responsibility of filmmakers to reveal and recognise human’s greed.

My appetite grew as I participated in debates involving Afghanistan refugees during the 2018 HCIS Model United Nations, competed in the 2017 National Literature Festival, and thereafter obtained a CAC Chairman and Book Prize Award (Gold) for outstanding academic performance in Tampines Meridian Junior College. At the very heart of my education journey, my love for environmental documentary filmmaking grew due to my weekly indulgence in National Geographic documentaries.

I am extremely fortunate to pursue my interests in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI). As I continue to master the art of film, my work aims to educate and inspire global citizens to yearn for change in our fragile planet.
